‘Allow Jammu traders to file VAT returns in Jan 2015’

JAMMU: Expressing resentment against the notices issued by the Commercial Taxes Department to the traders of Jammu region asking them to deposit their VAT amount to avoid interest / penalty, Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) appealed to the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes Department to allow the traders irrespective of their regions to file their VAT returns in January 2015.
A meeting of the office bearers of CCI, Jammu, and the prominent businessmen of Jammu was held under the chairmanship of senior Vice President, Sham Lal Langer here at Chamber House on Tuesday.
In the meeting, members took strong note on the recent notices issued by the Commercial Taxes Department to some prominent businessmen of Jammu province.
Secretary General CCI, Arun Gupta informed the members that a meeting was held after the issuance of SROs by the J and K Finance Department allowing the traders from Kashmir Valley whose books of accounts were washed away in the recent flash floods to file their VAT returns of the second quarter and the revised VAT returns of the first quarter in the month of January 2015.
On this, CCI Jammu strongly protested against these SROs issued by the Finance Department and appealed to the government to allow the traders from whole of the State to file their VAT returns in the month of January 2015 as the business community of Jammu has also suffered on this account. “The government has deputed Financial Advisor to State Government, J.A Khan, Principal Secretary, B.B Vyas and Commissioner Commercial Taxes Department, K.H Rizvi to have detailed discussions with CCI Jammu and sort out the matter,” he added
In this regard, a meeting was held in the office chamber of Commissioner Commercial Taxes Rail Head Complex, Jammu, under the chairmanship of J.A Khan where in B.B Vyas and K.H Rizvi, Commissioner Commercial Taxes and the representatives of CCI were present. In the meeting, Chamber strongly protested against the issuance of SROs allowing the traders from a particular region to file their VAT return in January 2015 and asked the committee to allow the traders from whole of the State to file their VAT returns in January 2015.
Secretary General CCI, Arun Gupta informed that the matter regarding issuance of notices by the Commercial Taxes department to some traders of Jammu was brought into the notice of Commissioner Commercial Taxes who informed that the notices might have been issued to MNCs and not to the traders.
Sham Lal Langer appealed to the Commissioner Commercial Taxes Department to personally intervene in the matter and allow the traders of Jammu region also to file their VAT returns in January 2015 as the money of the Jammu based traders is also totally blocked.
Junior Vice President CCI, Deepak Aggarwal, Secretary, Rahul Mahajan, Treasurer Ashu Gupta, Surinder Mohan Gupta, Shiv Partap Gupta, Rakesh Gupta, Vipan Gupta and Jatinder Aggarwal were present in the meeting.
