Alert sounded
The unprecedented intelligence warning on Sunday did not contain any specific details on the Jihadist group involved, or information that could lead police to perpetrators but the matter cannot be written off lightly. This is for the first time Pakistan has taken an initiative to inform India about the possible threat. What is new is Pakistan till date has been denying any information about the terror machinery and the terror attack emanating from its soil targeting India. There has to some external pressure on Pakistan to move one step more in the fight against terrorism. Fears of an attack in Gujarat have been mounting over the last four months, sparked by the discovery of five abandoned fishing boats in Harami Nullah, a channel that snakes along the India-Pakistan border before emptying into the Vianbari Creek. The fifth boat was discovered by the Border Security Force (BSF) just last month. The alert has reminded of 26/11 type Mumbai attack which had claimed over 160 lives and kept country on tenterhooks for more than three days. What is intriguing is that even the intelligence agencies are in dark about Pakistan’s role in providing intelligence inputs that around 10 Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed militants have sneaked into Gujarat. Following the terror alert, the Somnath Temple Trust, for the first time, has cancelled all Govt-sponsored cultural programmes. A similar alert has also been sent to Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chandigarh. In view of the 2nd January terror attack in Pathankot Air Base, security agencies are not taking any chances and all possible steps are being taken to prevent any possible terror attacks. Recently a top army commander had said there are some “disturbing” inputs about a terror attack in India aimed at creating the “maximum media impact” during the Shivratri festival and the ongoing Parliament session, with an assurance that steps have been taken to deal with it. Our security forces are always alert and are capable of handling any situation. This confidence keeps every India safe.
