AJKPWA hails withdrawal of 30 pc fare hike

JAMMU: All J&K Passengers’ Welfare Association (AJKPWA) has hailed the decision of Government of Jammu & Kashmir UT for withdrawal of 30 per cent special fare hike on the account of COVID-19 especially and asked the Government to implement this withdrawal order in letter and spirit and also accept genuine demands of the Transporters to provide them relief.
In a press statement, president AJKPWA, Pt R C Sharma (Journalist, RTI & Peace Activist) said that 30 per cent fare hike was temporary only to cope up with restrictions made during COVID-19 period and now there are no more restrictions and so the fare hike is not justified and withdrawal is genuine.
He further said that transporters have must welcomed the step of special fare hike withdrawal step and cooperated the government in this concern.
He said that no doubt that transporters have suffered during Covid-19 period but they must understand that every person has suffered financially and now it is our collectively responsibility to face the challenges thrown by the pandemic.
He asked the Transporters that during normal days they have earned a lot from the society and now it is their turn to contribute towards society.
While mentioning the problems of transporters, he asked the government to take the problems of transporters seriously and resolve their problems so that they may also take sigh of relief. He said that transport is the backbone of the society and everything depends on the transporters.
He further appealed the Lt Governor to constitute a Transport Monitoring Committee of Transport Department, Traffic Police, Transporters, All J&K Passengers’ Welfare Association and other stakeholders to ply vehicles purposefully and smoothly.
He said that physical distancing should be maintained in passenger vehicles and other precautions must be followed.
