AJKCA, Army conduct mega chess workshop at Tangdhar

SRINAGAR: In an initiative to tap the young talented boys and girls in the game, All J and K Chess Association in collaboration with Indian Army organised a three-day chess workshop-cum-competition at Tangdhar in Kupwara District of Kashmir.
“Around 1,500 students from schools and colleges are being made part of the training programme. It was a pleasant experience to find young students from the border belt of the State mastering their skills to move knights and rooks on the chess board,” President of the Association, Atul Gupta said.
The event, organised under the aegis of Shakti Vijay Brigade, is being conducted in the form of a workshop and coaching for two days. The workshop is being run simultaneously in three schools of Tangdhar Valley at Tithwal, Kandi and Tadd wherein participants are drawn from designated cluster schools as well.
“The event would be concluded on 4th July after organising a competition among students selected from workshop on 4th July, disclosed Gupta.
The opening day of the workshop drew huge crowd of students.
“It will channelise the energy of the students and young boys in constructive activity and it’s a good mental exercise, said Vice Principal from Secondary School Tad, Qureishi.
Earlier, Commander, Shakti Vijay opened the chess workshop at Tadd in the presence of Vice President of the AJKCA, Baldev Raj, officers from army and civil administration as also prominent citizens of the area.
Meanwhile, on behalf of AJKCA, Atul Gupta expressed gratitude to Brigadier C.S Dewgun and Colonel Vinay Jasrotia for extending a helping hand.
