Ajinomoto in momos posing serious health risk: Arora

JAMMU: The use of taste enhancer Ajinomoto salt in Chinese food items especially momos and noodles is posing a serious health risk to the youth of Jammu, who are consuming these food items in large scale.
This was stated by MLC Ramesh Arora while addressing a programme organised by NGO Naya Sawera here at Press Club.
Arora stressed on educating young generation about the health hazards involved in eating Chinese food items with unchecked use of the aforesaid Chinese salt that leads to serious health risks.
The event was attended by several prominent members of the society besides officials of executive agencies including Municipal authorities, Drug and Food Control officials, Health Department and district administration.
It was unanimously resolved to ask people especially the youth to immediately stop the consumption of momos, noodles and other Chinese food items which are detrimental for health.
The experts from medical fraternity asserted that children are suffering stomach irritation, intestinal problems and many other complications due to intake of such Chinese foods. “On several occasions, we have to operate patients for treating the complications cropped up due to use of momos and noodles”, they averred.
Later, Arora constituted a Sub-committee comprising prominent citizens including Arun Choudhary, Ashok Gupta, Vijay Trehan, Govind Sareen, Ramesh Gupta, Sanjay Sharma, Ramprashad, Kapil Arora, Dinesh Arora, Mohan Singh Rana and Bawa Sharma for framing educational programmes to educate masses for coping up with this menace involving serious health risks.
Arora said that it is admitted fact there are number of other health hazards also but we have to start from somewhere and a data based programme is prepared so that concerned department can take remedial measures check the menace.
He said that matter will also be taken up with the concerned minister and if needed in the Upper House and Assembly also.
Arora informed Ajinomoto is trade name of Monosodium Glutamate (MGS). It is used extensively in Chinese foods including momo’s manchurians, noodles, champs and soups. “Different studies have proved MSG symptom complex includes burning sensation in the face, and neck, breathing problem, headache, nausea, vomiting, fast heart beat, etc”, he said adding, “It may affect badly on unborn child during pregnancy, can cause migraine and abnormal heart beats, chest pains, etc.
“Nerves disorder, asthma, weight gain, hypertension, sleep disorder and intestinal Cillitis/Cancer are other health risks which this Chinese salt can cause”, he informed citing different studies.
B.S Slathia President Bar Association of Jammu (BAJ), Parshotam Deechi, Dr Meenakshi SMGS Hospital, Zorawar Singh Chairman Team Jammu, Narayan Singh, Judge Paviter Singh and Sanjeev Drug and Food Control Department also spoke on the occasion.
Other prominent citizens and government officials present on the occasion include Raj Daluja, Ajay Bharti MLC, Gurdeep Singh Director Health, Dr Geelani, Ravinder Singh Director School Education, R.S Jamwal Joint Commissioner JMC, Dr. Katoch, Dr. Anita Salgotra, Tilak Gupta, Gandhi Bharat, K.K.
