JAMMU: The AIIMS Coordination Committee on Monday decided to intensify its movement by organising candle light processions to be followed by Dharnas and Gheraos of MLAs and Ministers. It was also decided that the members of the committee would meet again on Saturday to decide future course of action.
The meeting of AIIMS Coordination Committee members thanked the people of Jammu province for their overwhelming response to Bandh call. However, the members expressed deep anguish over the visible attitude of the ruling coalition in the State and the Central Government in general and particularly of the elected representatives of Jammu province in ignoring the genuine demands of the people of Jammu province seeking establishment of the promised AIIMS in Jammu and early completion of the ongoing artificial lake project over river Tawi. They in one voice censured the ministers and MLAs saying that the people of Jammu province voted for their party in the large numbers hoping that their participation in the government would end discrimination with them and work for a regime that will establish parity between the Jammu Province and Kashmir region at all levels. They bemoaned that their mandate has gone wasted.
The members of the coordination committee reviewed the whole situation arising out of the indifferent attitude of the elected representatives from Jammu province and resolved to intensify the movement for ensuring its logical conclusion. There was perfect unanimity among all the members of the coordination committee. After thorough deliberation, the committee decided to intensify the movement beginning with candle light processions to be held shortly and to be followed by Dharnas and Gheraos of MLAs and ministers
There was consensus that in the event of the authorities not conceding to the popular demands, the committee would be left with no other option but to take some extreme steps to force the arrogant, insensitive and inflexible authorities to concede to the legitimate demand of people from Jammu Province.
The Coordination Committee also decided to constitute committees to be charged with responsibility of visiting district headquarters and Tehsils to mobilise public opinion across the province so that the authorities in the state and at the centre are made to read the writing on the walls.
Meanwhile, concluding the deliberations, Chairman of the coordination committee and the president JKHCBA, Advocate Abhinav Sharma, made a passionate appeal to all the segments of the society in Jammu province to be fully prepared for a long drawn and full scale struggle as their opponents are determined to jeopardise their interests. He urged New Delhi to appreciate the nationalist urges of the people of Jammu province so that they lead a dignified life and enjoy all the rights available to their fellow Indian brethren. He said the ball is in the court of Delhi and the future course of action of the coordination committee would depend upon how it addresses the genuine concerns of the agitating people of Jammu province.
