Animal Husbandry Dept establishes 453 Poultry micro units under SCA to TSP

JAMMU: Department of Animal Husbandry (AHD), Jammu, in the process of implementing the Centrally Sponsored Scheme under Special Component Assistance to Tribal Sub Plan distributed 50-day old chicks along with other poultry items to 453 Scheduled Tribe (ST) Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries in different villages of district Jammu.
Recently Department of Animal Husbandry established poultry micro units in Ganguchak, Channuchak, Tarlokpur and Datreyal villages of Block Marh and Bamyal and Marh Drabi villages of Block Dansal.

Elaborating upon the scheme, Poultry Development Officer, Jammu, Dr. Pran Koul exhorted the beneficiaries to take advantage of this poor- friendly scheme. He stressed that no special capital investment is required for upkeep of these birds as these can be reared and maintained on kitchen waste. He also dwelt upon the beneficiaries the impact of this scheme in augmenting the rural economy and employment generation. He informed that about 22,650 birds have been distributed to the identified 453 ST BPL beneficiaries till date.

It was impressed upon by the Poultry Extension Officer, Dr. Saheel-ur-Rehman that the process of identification of beneficiaries
is done after following all the laid out guidelines, in consultation
with the local Panchayat and Rural Development officials and all the
birds are immunised against the deadly diseases. Poultry Extension
Officer, Jammu Dr. Sanjay Kumar elaborated upon the role of timely and proper immunisation amongst the poultry birds. He also elaborated the feeding schedule and proper rearing techniques of poultry birds to the beneficiaries.

Dr. Pran Koul appealed to the local Sarpanchs and Panchs to exert their influence upon the beneficiaries to maintain and rear these birds till their reproductive age is complied and take the benefit of this scheme. Various other schemes of the department like Poultry Capital Venture Fund Scheme, Subsidised Poultry Vaccines and Medicines were discussed amongst the farmers. During the interaction with the Poultry farmers detailed guidelines were given in order to make the Poultry Farming profitable enterprises.

The programme was organised under the supervision of Dr. P.S Bharti Chief Animal Husbandry Jammu.

The distribution programme was attended by the staff of Poultry
Organisation, Sarpanchs, Panchs and the prominent citizens of the village.
