Agriculture glossary to be published in Dogri soon

JAMMU: A five day expert meet, organized by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Human Resource Development, at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), Chatha concluded here on Sunday.
Experts from various fields including agricultural sciences, Botany besides eminent Dogri writers from Jammu and Kashmir participated in the meet to evolve, invent and incorporate the existing traditional Dogri terminology being used in the field of agriculture by scientists, researchers, farmers and the common masses of the state.
Dr Shailender Singh, Assistant Director CSTT informed that the Commission is in the process of finalizing fundamental glossary of agriculture in English, Hindi and Dogri to facilitate agricultural scientists and farmers besides Dogri speaking populace of the State thus fulfilling the long pending public demand. He informed that the glossary of agriculture in Dogri will soon be a reality adding that the main objective of such meets is to acquaint agriculturists with the prevailing agricultural terms in their mother tongue and also to preserve and promote national languages for human welfare besides strengthening farmer to farmer contact.
The Commission will bring forth the scientific and technical terms in Dogri, publish glossary and dictionary. This would help popularize and enrich Dogri language among the scientists and would bring better understanding of the subject among stakeholders from all walks of the society like students, teachers, scholars, scientists, officers, agriculturalists and the farmers.

Gupta (Agro-Forestry), Prof. B. C. Sharma (Head, Agro-meteorology, SKUAST-J), Prof. Y. R. Sharma (Former Head, Plant Pathology), Prof. V. S. Verma (Plant Pathology), Dr. R.K Gupta (Entomology), Dr. P. S. Slathia (Agriculture Extension), Dr. Romesh Atri (Botany) and Sh. Joginder Chhatrapal (eminent writer and Dogri language expert) attended the meeting as experts from various disciplines of agriculture and allied sciences.
