‘Acquaint women with laws against violence at workplace’

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women in collaboration Department of Sociology, University of Kashmir organised a seminar on violence against women at workplace.
Chairperson, J and K State Commission for Women, Nayeema Ahmed Mahjoor enumerated several steps the Commission is taking to address the pressing issues of women; particularly their safety at work places. She asked women to come forward and report their grievances with the Commission which would peruse them with all seriousness.
Member, J and K Vigilance Commission, Gousul Nisa Jeelani while quoting Vishaka Committee guidelines threw light on the role of law to address the harassment issue of women folk at workplaces.
Head, Department of Sociology, Prof Aneesa Shafi while affirming the importance to understand the psychology of violence against women at workplaces underscored the need to acquaint women with the laws entailed to protect them at workplaces.
Senior professor, Dr. Neelofer Khan emphasized on the implementation of Vishaka Committee in the institutes like Universities, Colleges and Government offices.
Dean Academics, Professor M. A. Wani, also spoke on the occasion.
