VIJAYPUR: Former Minister and JKPCC General Secretary Manjit Singh on Saturday appealed to government to construct a building in the safer places for the International Border residents.
“International Border residents face hostility after every two or three years and there is need to construct buildings for the border residents in the safer places so that people can be shifted there,” said Manjit Singh.
Former Minister Manjit Singh alongwith people visited Dag-Channi villages along the IB and interacted with the people to listen to their grievances.
After interacting with the people, he said, the government hurriedly asks them to shift to other places without making permanent solution to the problem being faced by the border residents.
“They don’t think about their rehabilitation in the safer places. It is only border residents, who face trouble during hostility between India and Pakistan. The government should take a decision regarding construction of buildings for the border residents,” he said.
He further said that the border residents have to abandon their houses and shift to government buildings like educational institutions. “The townships like constructed for Kashmiri Pandits, should be provided to border residents,” he added.
With regard to reservation, he said, Line of Control (LoC) residents are enjoying reservation but this right is not given to the International Border residents. “IB people have been deprived of their basic right of getting reservation for their children in education, jobs or admissions in professional institutions,” he alleged.
He said that both LoC and IB residents face same consequences yet there are two yard sticks to give them benefits. “One is given benefit of reservation, while another is ignored,” he alleged.
