ACB presents charge-sheet against Patwari in trap case

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau J&K (ACB) presented charge-sheet against Ashiq Hussain Malik, the then Patwari Halqa Sharifabad, HMT Srinagar in a trap case. “ACB presented Charge-sheet in case FIR No. 21/2023 registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Srinagar Kashmir against accused Ashiq Hussain Malik, the then Patwari Halqa Sharifabad HMT Srinagar, in a bribery case before the Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption court Srinagar,” ACB official said. “The FIR was registered on October 5, 2023 on a written complaint alleging therein that aforesaid accused demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe for making requisite entries in Jamabandi online documents of revenue,” official said adding that a trap was laid and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 as bribe from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered on the spot, and chemical tests later confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein on the accused’s hands, official said.
Based on the facts and circumstances together with cogent evidence brought on record, the investigation established the commission of offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against the accused public servant namely Ashiq Hussain Malik, the then Halqa Patwari Sharifabad HMT Srinagar, official said.
After obtaining the requisite sanction for prosecution from the Govt., official said, the charge-sheet was presented before the Court of Additional Special Anti-Corruption Judge Srinagar, today for judicial determination. The next date of hearing has been fixed on October 8, 2025.
