3 drug peddlers arrested; psychotropic substance recovered

SRINAGAR: Acting tough against drug dealings, Police arrested three drug peddlers and recovered psychotropic substance from their possession.
Officers at a checkpoint established at Nambal Crossing intercepted a vehicle Thar bearing registration number JK01X-4920 with two persons onboard, who were identified as Waseem Ahmad Trag, son of Ali Mohammad Trag, resident of Tral and Mohammad Lateef Sheikh, son of Abdul Rehman Sheikh, resident of Batagund Tral. During checking, 17 bottles of Codeine Phosphate and 39 Spasmo-Proxyvon tablets were recovered from their possession. Both the accused were arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where they remained under custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
In this connection, a case vide FIR No. 201/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, officers at a check point established at Kraloo Kund intercepted a person identified as Ghulam Hassan Bhat, resident of Kraloo Kund. During checking, 3 ½ Kg Poppy Straw, concealed in a plastic bag, was recovered from his possession. He was arrested and shifted to Police Station Kund where he remained under custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.58/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Kund and further investigation has been initiated.
