TRUE COLOURS
Water is yet to recede fully from Kashmir Valley. The number of unfortunate deaths is not yet known. Some dead are yet to be buried. The fear of epidemics due to water contamination and sub soil infections in water logged inundated areas is looming large. The world watched with admiration the speed and spontaneity with which the Central Government reacted and army and central rescue machinery were pressed in. Over three lakh rescued population from marooned conditions are yet to get over the horrifying trauma.
All this is on record with photographic evidence flashed world over by international news agencies, satellite reports and the tell tale stories of the victims who confirm the yeoman task of the army and other rescue operations. Monitory and other aid by the central government and hundreds of social organisations from throughout the length and breadth of the 125 Cr nation is on record.
However, there is a dis-satisfied, antagonised sect of self styled Kashmir custodians who in the first place blamed India for causing the floods by ‘releasing water’ (from the skies). A news agency from Kashmir reported “While criticising policy makers of New Delhi, Chairman Hurriat Syed Ali Geelani said that at the time of floods, India left Kashmiris to die and after floods they are forcing people to die of starvation”. Geelani added that “the fanatic and communal rulers of India are very much satisfied with the situation in Kashmir and they want the people of Kashmir to struggle for decades for their rehabilitation and they will be forced to live a miserable life”.
Closing in the PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said “it needs to be conclusively established whether every effort was made to save Srinagar and other areas from the deluge”. Ignoring the role of army and the rescue teams he appreciated “role of the youth in saving lives and extending relief to the flood victims in absence of an organised response from the government”.
Asserting that flood torn Kashmiris have been left to the mercy of the Almighty, APHC Chairman Umar Mirwaiz stated that “many friendly countries and international aid organisations are willing to help Kashmir, but hoped that the Indian Government will not create any hurdles for them.”…..
