RAJOURI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Rajouri organised a training programme for the officers of Department of Agriculture, Rajouri on the topic “ Integrated Pest Management in Rabi crops” on Tuesday.
About 20 officers of the department attended this training programme which was organised under the guidance of Dr. Vikas Tandon, Programme Coordinator, KVK Rajouri .
The programme started with the welcome address by Dr. Rakesh Sharma, SMS of KVK. Dr. Arvind Kumar Ishar, SMS and Resource Person of the training programme gave a lecture on Integrated Pest Management in Rabi crops. He gave a detailed information on how indiscriminate use of pesticides is posing a big threat to human health and environment.
According to the deliberations by the resource person, these pesticides are causing serious health problems and various diseases like cancer, bronchitis, allergies, abortions and even gene mutations. It was emphasised that farmers should be advised and given proper training to follow Integrated Pest Management practices, which lays maximum stress on adoption of eco-friendly management practices and avoids use of chemical pesticides.
During the training programme major insect pests of Rabi crops were shown to the participants for their proper identification and management. Officers of the department showed keen interest in the presentation and took active part in healthy discussion which followed the lecture. Dr. Vishal Sharma, SMS (Agronomy) acquainted the participants with aspects of scientific cultivation of Rabi crops.
Later, Dr. Vikas Tandon, Programme Coordinator of KVK made an appeal to the participants to be a part of “ Swach Bharat Abhiyaan” which is an enthusiastic programme being launched by Prime Minister on 2nd October. He deliberated that we all must follow this programme in letter and spirit to make it a grand success. He also advised the officers to take up this programme in block level so that clean drive must include our villages.
Training ended with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Parul Gupta, SMS of KVK.
