DC visits various flood affected areas to monitor restoration works

KATHUA: Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, conducted a tour of various flood affected areas to monitor the pace of restoration works being carried out by different departments and assess demands of public on spot. An amount of Rs 2.35 Cr has also been released for various restoration works taken up by departments.
The DC accompanied by CEO Lakhanpur-Sarthal Development Authority Dr Bharat Bhushan, Asstt Commissioner Revenue Suraj Rukwal, XEn Irrigation, XEn Flood Control, XEn PWD, Tehsildar Kathua and other officers from Departments of Revenue, PWD, Irrigation, Flood Control, Planning, Rural Development and Industries visited Ghati, Jogain, Sakta Chak, Mahi Chak, Sherpur, Salar Khad and areas in periphery of Kathua town.
A number of deputations apprised the Deputy Commissioner on measures required for protection of agricultural land and crops on the banks of Ujjh. Concerned officers of Department of Irrigation and Flood Control were directed for preparing the estimates immediately and starting works within week’s times.
A team of Central Government is also visiting Ujjh River to assess damages and wok out permanent protection measures. Public meeting was also organised at Ghati where a number of issues related to different departments were discussed.
Meanwhile, the DC took a serious note of sand mining and extraction of minerals near bridges and vital assets of departments for which a team is being constituted to keep vigil and initiate action against violators.
District administration has also posted 16 new Patwaris keeping in view the quantum of work involved for relief disbursement and demand projected from various areas. Some Patwaris have been deputed from RTI Project and other collectorates for flood affected areas. Camps are being organised for disbursement of relief provided by the State Government.
