POONCH: Elected in violations of the J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) constitution and beyond the mandate of the CEO and CoAs, the district cricket associations have become pro-active to control things and make their presence felt. Since a verdict from the J&K High Court was awaited with regard to the elections of these district bodies and the control of the JKCA, some of these units have started working beyond their jurisdiction and scope.
While Jammu district had announced a cricket tournament in association with some little known cricket clubs, those in district Poonch body have started lobbying to enter corridors of power using influence. The move of Jammu district received a blow when their planned activity could not see light of the day. However, office bearers of Poonch district unit have managed to encroach upon the Sports Stadium Poonch by laying concrete wickets for net practice without official orders from the custodian of the property, J&K Sports Council (JKSC). Furthermore, the office bearers of these bodies have started influencing the district administrations to create a room for themselves. “The district administrations must look into the credentials of sports bodies, including cricket, before entertaining them for official assignments and involvement in managing sports. Let us wait for the Court to decide who is right and who is wrong with regard to cricket,” said a former JKCA office bearer pleading not to be quoted.
