‘Drug peddler’ shot dead amid SOG-Police squabble; enquiry begins

JAMMU: An alleged drug peddler was shot dead on Sunday afternoon when he escaped from Domana police station, taking benefit of the verbal brawl between the personnel of Special Operation Group (SOG) and Executive Police over difference of opinion about the arrest of three youngsters and registration of FIR against them at Domana Police Station.
Sources informed that the SOG team, during an intercept near Tanda area in Akhnoor, apprehended three youth along with a consignment of Charas. The trio was brought to Domana Police Station for registration of FIR.
“When the executive police men got engaged in long-discussion over the arrest at Domana despite being intercepted at Akhnoor area, one of the accused Tarsem Bhagat,24, son of Shamsher, resident of Chinore managed to flee from the police station. The chaos among the two wings of the J&K police gave chance to Tarsem to flee, sources added.
Then the joint teams of SOG and Police chased him and during the run he was shot dead when he attempted to enter into an adjoining locality, Slathia Mohalla.
Soon after the incident, the SOG and police blamed each other for opening the fire. Meanwhile, Tarsem was shifted to GMC hospital where the doctors declared him as brought dead.
Sources identified the other two drug peddlers as Kamal Sharma, 17, son of Rajinder Parsad Sharma and Irfaan, 19, son of Majid Ahmed Kohli, all residents of Poonch at present Chinore. They were apprehended from Tanda area near Akhnoor while travelling in a car (JK02T 0091).
Meanwhile, the Divisional Administration in Jammu has started investigations into the incident.
“Yes, there has been an incident. Deputy Commissioner just informed me and we are looking into it,” Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pawan Kotwal said.
