JAMMU: Senior BJP leader, Yudhvir Sethi on Friday honoured 53 State athletes who have won national medals and certificates in Taekwondo championships.
The medallists were honoured by the Jammu and Kashmir Taekwondo Association at a function organised, here.
Yudhvir, who was Chief Guest on the occasion, felicitated the young sportspersons and congratulated the association for promoting the sports in the State.
“We are proud of our young athletes who have proven their worth at different International and National level events and all out support would be provided to those youngsters who are pursuing sports professionally,” he added.
He appreciated the achievements made by Atul Pangotra a state awarded NIS coach and an international Taekwondo Master.
BJP leader Pardeep Sharma was Guest of Honour on the occasion and he lauded role of the J&K Taekwondo association in promoting the sport in the state.
On the occasion Gulshan Mahajan was also honoured for his social activities.
The organisers informed that special camps are being organised at all across the State and international level trainers would coach the students in techniques of taekwondo.
Atul International Taekwondo Academy is holding a special five-day summer camp at Patnitop from 13th to 17th June.
South Korean Grand Master Lee Wan Yong would train 80 participants from different parts of the country.
Calling upon younger generation to make sports part of life, Yudhvir said that physical fitness body is a prerequisite for an active mind and youth should be actively involved in sports for all round body fitness, adding that sports is also a very good career option as professional sportspersons are role models for society.
Prominent among those who attended the event include, President, Jammu and Kashmir Taekwondo Association P.C Sharma, Secretary D.N Pangotra and Organising Secretary Arun Sharma.
