Medical fraternity protests against police highhandedness

AKHNOOR: Health services were paralysed in Sub District Hospital (SDH) Akhnoor for four hours when all doctors, pharmacists, nurses and other staff of SDH went on strike against the police highhandedness. According to them Station House Officer (SHO) Akhnoor Kuldeep Kumar Khajuria entered the SDH during midnight at 1:00 AM, misbehaved and bullied the Pharmacist Jagdev Singh and others who were on duty.
All doctors and other paramedical staff observed strike against the police action due to which the working in hospital was totally paralysed. Hundreds of patients in outdoor (OPD) were not attended.
On the receipt of information of the strike MLA Akhnoor Rajeev Sharma, Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Akhnoor Suresh Chander Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Naresh Singh, Officiating Block Medical Officer (BMO) Akhnoor Ashok Kumar Bhagat and other administrative staff immediately reached the SDH to tackle the situation and restore the health services.
With the intervention of MLA Rajeev Sharma, SDM and DySP, the SHO Kuldeep Kumar Khajuria regretted the incident. He said that it was on receipt of a misinformation that some outsiders were creating problems for the patients which led to exchange of hot words for which he expressed his regret.
MLA Rajeev Sharma assured the doctors and other staff of SDH that there would be no interference of in their working and that in case of any problem he is always available. On the assurance of MLA and after regret by the SHO, the medical fraternity resumed the work.
