The Right to Education Act that makes education for all children up to age 14 years compulsory in government schools free of cost seems to have been ignored by the government. The employment of children below 14 years is banned, but many children are working in dhabas, shops and houses. The government should ensure good living conditions and safety of children. In this respect, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, with his NGO, the Bachpan Bachao Andolan, has done a marvelous job in rescuing many children. More such NGOs are needed.
