UDHAMPUR: Zone Udhampur boys won the opening under-14 and 17 kho-kho and under-17 volleyball matches in the District Level Inter Zonal U/14 and 17 Tournament, organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports in the disciplines of kabaddi, volleyball, kho-kho and wrestling, which began at Sports Stadium, here on Friday.
Chief Guest, Bishan Singh, Chief Education Officer declared the tournament open in the presence of Guest of Honour, J.M. Tharmat, District Education Planning Officer Udhampur.
The Chief Guest exhorted upon the participants that games and sports plays a vital role for the all around development of an individual and it is also a part of education.
He also appreciated and congratulated the District Youth Services and Sports Officer Udhampur and organizing committee for the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament.
About 460 boys drawn from different 11 zones of the district Udhampur participated in the tournament which is being organized under the patronage of Jahangir Mir, Director Youth Services and Sports, J and K and chairmanship of Sunil Singh Sambyal, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Udhampur.

Under-14: Volleyball: Tikri Zone defeated Ramnagar Zone by 2-0 (27-25, 25-17). Kabaddi: Jib Zone beat Majalta Zone by eight (23-15) points. Kho-Kho: Udhampur Zone outplayed Tikri Zone by six (09-03) points. Wrestling: 30-34 Kg: Pawan Kumar (Zone Jib) beat Sham Lal (Zone Babey). 35-39 Kg: Ranjeet Singh (Zone Udhampur) defeated Onkar Singh (Zone Chenani). 40-44 Kg: Shamsher Singh (Zone Babey) trounced Nand Kishore (Zone Jib), 45-49 Kg: Jugal Kishore (Zone Chenani) blanked Rashpaul (Zone Panchari).
Under-17: Volleyball: Udhampur Zone defeated Tikri Zone by 2-0 (25-13, 25-18). Kabaddi: Panchari Zone beat Jib Zone by five (36-31) points. Kho-Kho: Udhampur Zone trounced Jib Zone by six (11-05) points. Wrestling: 35-39 Kg: Ajay Kumar (Zone Jib) beat Amit Kumar (Zone Udhampur). 40-44 Kg: Rakesh Kumar (Zone Chenani) defeated Chotu Ram (Zone Ghordi). 45-49 Kg: Sunil Kumar (Zone Chenani) trounced Kaka Ram (Zone Kulwanta). 50-49 Kg: Ravi Kumar (Zone Majalta) downed Vijay Kumar (Zone Udhampur). 60-65 Kg: Mohd Saleem (Zone Tikri) outplayed Ashrad Hussain (Zone Dudu).
The matches were officiated by Ravi Singh, Kuldeep Kumar, Raj Kumar Gupta, Rakesh Modi, Raj Kumar, Romesh Chander, Sanjay Kumar, Naveen Sharma, Pushp Sharma, Raman Kumar, Vaishnoo Devi, Bandana Sharma, Rishi Kumar Sharma Manik Nargotra, Shashi Sharma, Sunil Kumar and Vikrant Balgotra.
