Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner M Angamuthu called in the Army to assist the civil administration in rescuing and providing relief to the people in flood and landslide affected areas in and around the city.

All government and private educational institutions in and around the city would remain closed for the third consecutive day tomorrow, an official release said.

The situation in Dhubri district, bordering Bangladesh, was grim with water level of the Brahmaputra river showing an upward trend.

People were being moved to safer places, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Kumud Kalita said.

Yesterday, a child was killed and three others were hurt in landslides in Hatsingimari area of the district, he added.

Train services in central Assam’s Morigaon district were also affected as rain water submerged rail tracks between Jagiroad and Dharamtul stations, a Northeast Frontier Railway spokesperson said.
