Deptt of Commerce, HRDC organise online workshop on Research Methodology

JAMMU: Department of Commerce, University of Jammu in collaboration with HRDC, University of Jammu, Jammu started the week-long Online Research Methodology Workshop. There are about 35 participants from various Universities and colleges from Delhi, Pondicherry, Nagaland, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and J&K. 15 sessions will be conducted in this workshop by the resource persons from reputed institutes across India. First day’s session began with Prof. Hardeep Chahal’s (Workshop Coordinator and HoD, Department of Commerce) welcome address. She also discussed the contents/topics to be covered in the workshop. Prof. Rahul Gupta (Director HRDC, University of Jammu) delved upon various rules to be followed during the workshop.
Prof. Manoj Kumar (Chairperson MBA Programme, IIM Jammu) was the key resource person in the morning session of the first day. He divulged on various aspects related to research, like research characteristics, selection of research area and problem, writing of research proposal, roles and responsibilities of the supervisor and research scholars etc. He also talked about various qualities that a researcher such as endurance, patience, curiousness, vigilance etc. Prof. Rishi Raj Sharma ( Dean, Regional Campus, GNDU, Gurdaspur) was the key resource person in the post lunch session. He delved upon another important aspect of research methodology- sample. He made an elaborative discussion on sampling design, its types and also discussed the sampling errors using examples. He elaborated on the process of sample size and how it varies in different research areas and the sampling errors associated with the sample.
Prof. Rishi also conducted a session on scaling and its types in the first session of the second day. It was followed by a session on questionnaire designing by Dr. Bodh Raj Sharma (Asst. Prof. University of Jammu). He talked about the need of preparing questionnaires, its types, steps to be followed for designing questionnaires and also delved upon various ethical issues related to questionnaire designing.
Dr. Sunil Kumar (Asst. Prof. University of Jammu) was the resource person on the post lunch session. He introduced the participants to the SPSS software with focus on the edit and menu commands used for data entry, data naming and editing etc. Prof Hardeep Chahal and Dr. Jeevan Jyoti coordinated all the sessions.
