In a shocking incident a Bangalore based family which was caught in Kashmir floods was forced to shout anti-Indian slogans, and asked to say Pakistan Zindabad by irate residents in the streets of Srinagar while they were walking from their hotel to the helipad near Raj Bhavan.
Bangalore based Mr Basavaraj said that they survived for four days in the Kashmir hotel but when they walked to safety through the roads they found an extremely hostile environment. A large number of people surrounded the the family, and forced them to shout Pakistan Zindabad. Basavaraj says that the family had no option as they were caught by a group of locals, who threatened them with dire consequences.
The Basavaraj family was staying in a hotel near the golf course when the flood hit the valley. The family starved for four days and survived on two bottles of water before being airlifted from Kashmir. While 20 of the tourists who were staying in the hotel went out towards the helipad, they encountered a shocking scenario while going through a distance of 12 km. Most of the tourists lost their belongings, and they alleged there was no security for them as local police officials looked the other way.
Meanwhile, the security agencies are apprehending that separatist groups and terrorists are planning to stoke anger among people in Srinagar to create problems for the security forces which are working very hard in the relief operations. A number of incidents have been reported in which army choppers have been pelted with stones, NDRF men attacked in the streets and even posters and banners being raised by slogans refusing to take help from security forces. Sources tell there are anti-social elements, and miscreants who are engaged in such activities despite the fact that people have been yearning for help, and ready to engage with armed forces.
