JAMMU: The Jammu & Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has strongly advocated for the establishment of a Film City in Jammu along with a dedicated platform to promote local artists. The demand was raised during a programme held at the party’s regional office.
State President Manish Sahni, while addressing the gathering, said that Jammu & Kashmir is not only known for its natural beauty but also for its immense pool of talent, creativity, and passion. However, he expressed concern that artists in the region are still struggling due to a lack of opportunities and proper platforms to showcase their abilities.
He stated that despite tall claims of development, the ground reality reflects that thousands of artists in Jammu continue to face challenges due to limited resources. Sahni emphasized that the proposed Film City would serve as more than just an infrastructure project-it would act as a hub for nurturing talent, creating employment opportunities, and giving the region a distinct identity at both national and international levels.
“Jammu’s artists deserve their own sky. A Film City here will not only empower local youth but also open new avenues in the creative and entertainment industry,” he said, urging the central government and concerned authorities to take concrete steps in this direction. He also stressed the need to promote regional cinema and short films.
On the occasion, posters of short films “Warrior Devyani” and “Nasha 370” were unveiled. Sahni noted that these films highlight how the youth of Jammu are using cinema as a medium to address important social issues such as women empowerment and drug de-addiction, thereby contributing to positive societal change.
Expressing concern over the declining condition of Doordarshan Jammu, Sahni remarked that a platform once known for promoting local artists has become largely inactive. He pointed out that the lack of regular programming and opportunities has led to growing disappointment among artists in the region.
In this context, he strongly demanded the launch of a 24×7 “Duggar Channel” dedicated to promoting Dogri language, culture, and art. He stated that such a channel would ensure consistent exposure and meaningful opportunities for local talent, helping preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Jammu.
The event was attended by several prominent personalities from the film and social sectors, including producers and directors Akshay Kumar, Shalu Singh, Vishal Mangotra, Harpreet Singh, Jiya Kashyap, Tania Devi, and social activist Pawan Sharma, who also expressed support for the initiative.
