Three-day Agriculture Summit & Kisan Mela 2026 to be held from Feb 11 at SKUAST-J

JAMMU: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) on Wednesday announced the organisation of the Agriculture Summit & Kisan Mela 2026, scheduled to be held from February 11 to 13, 2026, at the University’s Main Campus, Chatha.Addressing a press conference, Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. N. Tripathi informed that the three-day mega event will be organised under the overarching theme “AI-enabled Advanced Agriculture.”

He said the summit aims to bring together key stakeholders associated with agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, rural development, agri-linked industries, startups, researchers, extension professionals and farmers on a common platform.Prof. Tripathi highlighted that the summit will place special emphasis on artificial intelligence-based smart technologies, data-driven decision-support systems, precision farming, climate-smart agriculture and digital innovations. He added that the event will serve as a unique interface among farmers, scientists, entrepreneurs and policymakers to promote research-extension-industry convergence and foster innovation in the agricultural sector.The Vice-Chancellor further informed that the programme will feature expert sessions on improved crop varieties, modern farm machinery, organic and natural farming practices, entrepreneurship and startup models, value addition and market linkages. Special attractions will include farmer-scientist interactions, live demonstrations of advanced technologies, entrepreneurship workshops, dedicated programmes for women and young farmers, and felicitation of progressive farmers.Briefing the media, Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu, stated that the Kisan Mela component will provide farmers with an opportunity to directly interact with scientists and technology providers, witness live demonstrations, and gain information on government schemes and agribusiness opportunities. He added that stalls of government departments, agri-input companies, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), startups and partner institutions will be a major attraction.The Agriculture Summit & Kisan Mela 2026 is being organised in collaboration with various departments and institutions including the Agriculture Production Department J&K, Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, NABARD Jammu, Forest Department, Directorate of School Education J&K, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, IFFCO Jammu and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.On the occasion, the official brochure of the Agriculture Summit & Kisan Mela 2026 was released. All statutory officers of the University, senior officials from line departments and faculty members were present. The speakers appealed to farmers, entrepreneurs, students and stakeholders to actively participate in the event and benefit from this mega platform for knowledge sharing, capacity building and networking.
