LEH: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, inaugurated the newly upgraded Ladakh Model School-formerly a Primary Model School and now functioning as a Middle School under the Samagra Shiksha programme-marking a significant leap forward in the region’s education landscape.

Addressing an audience of parents, students, teachers and officials, the Lt Governor described the school’s upgradation as a long-term investment in the aspirations and future of Ladakh’s children.
He reaffirmed that education forms the backbone of a progressive society and reiterated the UT Administration’s commitment to ensuring equitable, high-quality learning opportunities for every child in a secure and nurturing environment.
Emphasising the transformative role of Samagra Shiksha, Kavinder Gupta highlighted that students in Ibex Colony can now pursue uninterrupted education up to Class 8 within their locality.
This development, he noted, will ease travel-related challenges, enhance safety, reduce dropout rates and significantly improve educational engagement, especially for girls. Citing the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Lt Governor said that reforms such as the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and Samagra Shiksha are making inclusive, quality education a reality even in geographically challenging regions like Ladakh.
“Education is not just a system; it is a nation’s most powerful tool for transformation,” he remarked.
He reiterated the Administration’s resolve to ensure that harsh climates, long distances, or resource constraints never impede a child’s learning journey.
Ongoing efforts include strengthening school infrastructure through improved buildings, classrooms, sanitation, clean drinking water, libraries, sports facilities and digital learning tools.
He emphasised the need for holistic education, stressing that sports, culture, arts, values and life skills must complement academics. Ladakh’s cultural richness and spirit of adventure, he said, should be reflected in its children.
The Lt Governor also acknowledged the crucial role of teachers, urging them to teach with compassion, innovation and dedication, while encouraging parents to actively support their children’s education.
He expressed gratitude to officials, teachers and community members for their collective efforts and expressed confidence that Ladakh Model School will evolve into a centre of excellence, inspiring future generations. The Lt Governor also inspected the newly constructed classrooms and Bal Vatikas.
Administrative Secretary Bhanu Prabha outlined upcoming initiatives, including plans to upgrade 50 more government schools with advanced learning facilities. Parents shared positive feedback, and Director School Education, Tashi Dolma, delivered the vote of thanks.
