JAMMU: Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gandhi Nagar, Sunil Jasrotia, has been transferred following allegations of assaulting a JKAS officer, Azhar Khan, outside Polytechnic College at Bikram Chowk.

According to reports, the incident occurred today, when Azhar Khan, serving as Block Development Officer (BDO) and designated Transport Incharge for the by-elections, was allegedly physically assaulted by SDPO Jasrotia. The issue turned into scuffle reportedly due to BDO’s vehicle’s wrong side entry to Bikram chowk. However, while the matter is being investigated. “DySP Sunil Singh, SDPO Gandhi Nagar, has been transferred and directed to report to PHQ for further posting. Consequently, Kuljit Singh, DSP, SDPO Basohli has been transferred and posted as SDPO Gandhi Nagar, Jammu with immediate effect,” reads an order issued by Sandeep Wazir, AIG-P, with the approval of DGP.
Meanwhile, in a communication addressed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the JKAS officers expressed “deep anguish and strong protest” over the incident, describing it as a grave attack on the dignity and safety of civil officers engaged in statutory duties.
According to the letter, the incident occurred while the BDO was performing his official responsibilities as Nodal Officer (Transport). The officers alleged that, despite being on a sensitive election assignment, the BDO was subjected to physical assault and harassment.
In solidarity with their colleague, the JKAS officers have collectively decided to proceed on mass casual leave with immediate effect. They have demanded stern and visible action against the concerned officer(s) and the institution of adequate safeguards to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The letter further urged the Lieutenant Governor’s intervention to uphold the dignity of the civil service, restore officer confidence, and ensure that administrative functioning remains free from intimidation and abuse.
