36th Kathua District Volleyball Championship-2024 concludes

KATHUA The 36th Kathua District Volleyball Championship 2024 concluded on sunday after two days of intense competition at the volleyball grounds in Panchayat Ghar, Bakhta.
The tournament, which began on 23rd November 2024, saw 21 boys’ and 4 girls’ teams from various volleyball clubs in the district participate under the auspices of the District Volleyball Association, Kathua. The event, which was inaugurated by Tilak Raj Bhardwaj, Dy SP SOG Border, drew a large crowd of local supporters and volleyball enthusiasts. In the girls’ final, the Billawar Girls Volleyball Team triumphed over the Nagri (Parole) Volleyball Team, winning with dominant set scores of 25-12 and 25-14. Meanwhile, in the boys’ final, the Upper Mela Volleyball Team claimed victory over the Gara Volleyball Team in a thrilling 2-1 match, with scores of 25-20, 16-25, and 12-25.
The matches were officiated by a dedicated panel of referees, including Mohinder Sharma, Chuni Lal, Sunil Singh, Ram, Sahil Sharma, and Gaurav Sharma.
The final match was attended by Rajiv Jasrotia, MLA of Jasrota Constituency, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of staying away from drugs and encouraged the youth to pursue sports for better physical and mental health. He also assured the players that he would work towards securing funds for the construction of an indoor volleyball stadium in Kathua to further support the sport. As a gesture of gratitude for the efforts of the Bakhta Volleyball Club in organizing the event, MLA Jasrotia presented Rs 11,000 to the host club to cover expenses related to the tournament.
The event was also graced by several prominent figures, including M L Toofan, Patron-in-Chief, Kamal Sharma President, Attar Singh Senior Vice-president, Mohinder Sharma General Secretary, Ram Lal Jt.
