Shankar Das and team win Pro-Am event of J&K Open 2024

JAMMU: The Pro-Am event of the J&K Open 2024 presented by J&K Tourism, played at the Jammu Tawi Golf Course, was won by Kolkata-based professional Shankar Das and his team.
Shankar’s team had a net score of 51.8 and consisted of amateurs Pawan Parihar, Col. Ramesh and Aizaz Quasier.
Professional Jamal Hossain of Bangladesh helped his team finish second with a net score of 54.3. Jamal’s team consisted of amateurs J P Singh, S A Beigh and Rajiv Kotwal.

The closest to the pin contest on hole no 2 was won by Rajiv Gabgotra whose shot landed 10 feet and seven inches from the hole.
The prize for the closest to the pin on hole no. 17 was won by Harbinder Singh whose shot landed nine feet and three inches from the hole. The prize for the straightest drive on hole no. 14 was won by Dr. Anil Slathia as his drive landed 10 inches from the centre of the fairway.
The prize for the longest drive on hole no. 8 was won by Jaideep Manocha as he landed his drive at a distance of 270 yards.
The third edition of the J&K Open Golf Tournament 2024, a premier event organized by the Directorate of Tourism Jammu in collaboration with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and Jammu Tawi Golf Course, concluded on October 27,2024 at the scenic Jammu Tawi Golf Course.
This year’s tournament bolstered Jammu’s reputation as a leading golf and tourism destination, attracting 126 golfers from India and six other countries. Held from October 23 to 27, the event celebrated Jammu’s charm and cultural vibrancy with features like the Dogra Food Festival, captivating cultural performances, and intricate handicraft displays, creating an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators alike.
The winning Pro-Am team, led by professional Shankar Das and including amateurs Pawan Parihar, Col. Ramesh, and Aijaz Qaiser, was awarded by Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary, Agriculture & Forest Department, J&K, along with ADGP Garib Dass, Director Tourism Vivekanand Rai, Joint Director Tourism Sunaina Sharma Mehta, and Secretary of Jammu Tawi Golf Course, Manav Gupta, JKAS.
All the participants were presented a specially crafted Jammu-themed souvenir from the Directorate of Tourism as a commemorative keepsake.
Inaugurated by Secretary Tourism Yasha Mudgal, the event featured a rich blend of sport and culture, with highlights such as the Dogra Food Festival, art and craft exhibitions, guided heritage tours, and golf clinics for budding talent, underscoring Jammu’s appeal as a cultural and golfing hub.
This year’s champion, Shaurya Bhattacharya, was awarded the coveted rolling trophy adorned with the iconic Chenab Rail Bridge (World’s highest railway bridge in District Reasi of Jammu region) a symbol of engineering excellence and regional pride.
Broadcast nationwide on ABP Live and DD Sports, the J&K Open 2024 offered viewers glimpses of Jammu’s scenic tourist destinations, further solidifying its position as a premier golf tourism destination. The event’s distinct cultural elements and exclusive souvenirs enhanced its standing, leaving a lasting impression on all participants and audiences alike.
This year’s J&K Open stood as a true celebration of Jammu’s cultural and culinary legacy, setting a new benchmark for golf tourism and elevating Jammu’s prominence on both national and international stages.
