Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre celebrates World Habitat Day

JAMMU: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated World Habitat Day at Channi Himmat, here, in which Dr. Devansh Yadav, Municipal Commissioner, Jammu and Chief Executive Officer, Jammu Smart City Limited was the Chief Guest and Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma, FIE; Chairman, IEI, Jammu Local Centre, and Sachin Tickoo, Honorary Secretary were present among large number of engineers, professionals and members of the civil society.
A seminar on the theme “Engaging youth to create a better urban future” was organized on the occasion.
in her welcome address, she emphasized the critical role young people can play in shaping sustainable, inclusive, and resilient cities. As urbanization accelerates globally, cities are grappling with large range of challenges, including overcrowding, environmental degradation, housing shortages and social inequality.
She said young people with their fresh perspectives and innovative thinking are uniquely positioned to address these challenges and lead transformative change.
Four numbers of the technical papers on the theme were presented by Er. P. K. Nanda, FIE; Er. B. L. Rawal, FIE; Er. Sumil Goyal,MIE & Er. Joy Ganjoo, AM Technologist.
The Chief Guest said that all the stakeholders must work together in an effective and mutually beneficially manner to implement measure for a Carbon Free Jammu & Kashmir and create sustainable settlements. He further emphasized to create green zones within Jammu City during implementation of Smart City Mission in Jammu.
Sachin Tickoo said this Day is celebrated to focus on the state of human settlements and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter.
It also aims to remind people that they are responsible for the habitat of future generations. He urged that by prioritizing the sustainable, resilient, and inclusive cities, we can guarantee that everyone has a place to call home.
He further presented the vote of thanks.
