JAMMU: CBSE aims to strengthen the capacity of schools to deliver high-quality competency-based lessons, particularly in Science, Mathematics and English.
Under this initiative of CBSE as well as to fulfill the demand of CBSE for 25 hour mandatory In-house Teachers’ Training programme for every teacher, a Capacity Building Program for English faculty members of JKPS Kunjwani was conducted on Monday.
The purpose of the capacity building program was to fortify teachers with effective teaching methodologies needed for the millennial generation of students.
To begin with Principal JKPS Kunjwani, Rajesh Rathore shared his vision on Competency Based Education (CBE). In his address, he stated “The students of JKPS Kunjwani ought to be given a well-thought out and equipping platform to experience competency-based learning in the classroom at all levels where they can acquire the skills they need to succeed in the future and showcase their capability through effective assessment that allows them to demonstrate their skills, as English language has become one of the bare-necessities in today’s extremely competitive world.”
The program started with an interactive discussion by Arti Tickoo, PGT English at JKPS, Kunjwani. In her session, she acquainted the participants with competency education in English language, differences between assessment and evaluation, rules of framing good questions including multiple choice questions (MCQs) and free response questions (FRQs).
Enlightening the attendees further, Shivani Sambyal, TGT English at JKPS Kunjwani conducted a thorough discussion on intensive and extensive framing of questions both MCQs and FRQs based on cognitive levels of Blooms Taxonomy and Understanding by Design by CBSE. The teachers got a hand-on experience of framing the questions.
A short and precise explanation was made by Cherry Gupta, HOD English at JKPS Kunjwani regarding the latest scoring rubrics and marking scheme to be followed while evaluating the answer sheets of the child. It was an effective session which was aimed at enhancing the understanding of the curriculum of English and giving fruitful guidance to teachers of English to update their pedagogical skills.
While attending the Workshop on Competency-based assessment, Principal JKPS Kunjwani Rajesh Rathore appreciated teachers for making an effective presentation and highlighting the salient features of the topic.
Concluding his remarks he stated, “Every teacher on the rolls of JK Public School Kunjwani, the premier progressive & futuristic school of J&K, must groom herself/ himself as a potential Resource person to ensure the optimum learning transaction in the classrooms with students”.
