Climate Cup 2024 kicks off with spectacular opening

LEH: The Climate Cup 2024 launched with a vibrant opening day that combined the thrill of football with a powerful message on climate change. Hosted by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh and the Ladakh Football Association, this unique tournament aims to unite global communities in addressing environmental challenges while celebrating football. The opening ceremony, graced by Kyabje Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche as Chief Guest, brought spiritual and cultural depth to the event. Chairman/CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson of LAHDC Leh was the Guest of Honor. Other notable attendees included Executive Councillor for Culture Stanzin Chosphel, Secretary of Youth Services and Sports Vikram Singh Malik, Secretary RDD Amit Sharma, DIG Ladakh Police Sheikh Junaid Mehmood, former MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, former CECs Rigzen Spalbar and Gyal P Wangyal, and BJP Ladakh President Phunchok Stanzin. The day’s football action was thrilling. Gokulam Kerala FC showcased exceptional skill in their 8-1 victory over Skalzangling FC, setting a high standard for the tournament. In a tightly contested second match, NorthEast United FC edged out Ladakh FC with a 2-1 win, highlighting the competitive spirit of the event.
