Steel bridge over Chenab river reopens
AKHNOOR: Akhnoor steel bridge reopened for traffic on Wednesday after proper check by 57 Road Construction Company (RCC) of Border Road Organisation (BRO).
According to OC 57 RCC Gurkirpal Singh, the bridge was closed due to abnormal rise in the Chenab water above danger level to avoid any mishap. He said that since the water level has receded the bridge has been re-opened after making proper checks of the structure.
Akhnoor steel bridge is very important and was built in 1933 by Maharaja Hari Singh on the birth of Dr. Karan Singh and was named after him. During 1992 night of 9th and 10th September big span of bridge was washed away and was rebuilt in 1994 and reopened for traffic on 13th April 1994.
