Dr Jitendra presents ‘Week’ magazine awards to eminent doctors, philanthropists

NEW DELHI: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh presented prestigious awards from “The Week” magazine to eminent personalities in medicine and philanthropy at a ceremony organized by Malayalam Manorama and The Week magazine.
The event celebrated notable contributions in various fields, including medicine, social service, and media. Dr. Singh also unveiled “Pioneers of India,” a Coffee Table book showcasing 29 influential figures across diverse sectors such as education, cinema, and music.
He praised the book as a remarkable tribute to India’s enduring spirit of creativity and intellectual pursuit.
In his address, Dr. Singh expressed his pride in being part of the medical fraternity, highlighting his own background as a renowned endocrinologist with over three decades of experience.
He emphasized that the book stands as a testament to India’s rich heritage of intellectual inquiry and pioneering achievements. Dr. Singh also reflected on his past association with the Malayalam Manorama group, recalling his participation in a similar event the previous year.
Dr. Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for advancing research and development. He noted recent government initiatives from the union budget, including internships for youth, the removal of angel tax, and CSR rules mandating corporate investment in R&D.
He commended the government’s focus on fostering startups and highlighted successes in space and biotechnology sectors achieved through public-private collaborations.
The Minister underscored the importance of early industry linkage and overcoming skepticism about startups being limited to IT.
He highlighted the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) as an initiative to preserve and transfer traditional knowledge to younger generations. Dr. Singh concluded by commending the publishing house for its efforts in promoting optimism, creativity, and positive contributions to society.
