Jammu Doctors deliver faculty lectures in NZ-IMSCON

JAMMU: Jammu doctors were invited as Guest Faculty at North Zone Indian Menopause Society Conference (NZ-IMSCON ), at Faridabad.
Dr Sudhaa Sharma Senior Gynaecologist Madaan Hospital, Jammu during her guest lecture clarified the horrors created by Women Health Initiative Study (WHI) regarding institution of Menopausal Hormonal Therapy (MHT).
She emphasised that MHT should be given to every deserving patient after proper screening to improve the quality of life. Besides Vasomotor Symptoms, MHT gives benefit to the bones, heart, brain & urogenital system. It is a therapy of choice for Premature & Surgical Menopause. However, every patient should be properly monitared & followed up .
Former Prof. Dr Annil Mahajan, during his presentation as an expert in Osteoprosis Session stressed that before starting any drug therapy, besides kidney function tests other comorbities should also be worked up & addressed well. Because choice of particular drug can be suitably made only after knowing the basic profile of patients. He emphasised that drug therapy has to be individualized & almost all the patients are to be supplemented with calcium & Vit. D & guided for various life style modifications. .It was also clarified that it is never too early to start the prophylaxis & never too late to give therapeutic drug therapy to any women but stressed for a judicious use of drugs in expert hands with proper monitoring for reduction of risk of future fractures in these patients.
Prof. Dr Vishal Tandon from GMC, Jammu during his presentation discussed in detail the profile of all the drugs used in the treatment of Osteoporosis. He also introduced the profile of latest drugs like denosumsb, abaloparatide & romosozumab in management of osteoporosis. He concluded that with appropriate choice of drug and supportive care women can have a better quality and a very independent life.
