Reasi: In a significant move to address grassroots concerns, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Er Gulam Ali Khatana concluded his two-day public outreach programme in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
The MP held a series of public darbars across various locations, including Talwara, Dharmari, Reasi, Arnas, and Bhomag, listening intently to the grievances of local residents. During his outreach programme, the MP was accompanied by former Minister Ajay Nanda, District Vice President Pawan Dev Singh, Vice Presidents Mohd Ikhlakh and Anil Sharma, ST Morcha District President Mohd Rafi, Minority Morcha, and other leaders.
The public darbars saw enthusiastic participation from locals who raised a multitude of issues affecting their daily lives. Primary concerns voiced by the constituents included inadequate road infrastructure, erratic electricity supply, and water scarcity. These basic amenities, crucial for the development and well-being of the region, dominated the discussions throughout the day. Responding to the concerns raised, Er Khatana took immediate action by directing the Reasi district administration to streamline their services. He emphasized the need for hassle-free delivery of government services, insisting that these should be made available to citizens at their doorstep. This directive aligns with the central government’s vision of efficient and accessible governance.
Recognizing the gravity of some issues that require intervention at the highest level of the Union Territory administration, the MP sought special attention from Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha. Er Khatana assured the public that he would personally bring these matters to the Lt. Governor’s notice, underlining his commitment to resolving the region’s pressing problems.
In his address to the gathered citizens, Er Khatana reiterated the Union Government’s dedication to inclusive development. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, the government is committed to serving the last citizen of this country without any discrimination,” he stated. The MP’s words echoed the central government’s ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ (Together with all, Development for all) philosophy. Highlighting India’s progress under PM Modi’s leadership, Er Khatana said, “India has achieved new heights in all sectors. This unending pace of development will continue to create more and more infrastructure.” He pointed to various national achievements as testament to the country’s growth trajectory.
The MP also shed light on a transformative project for the region – the rail link connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country via Reasi district. Describing it as a game changer, Er Khatana emphasized its potential to revolutionize the district’s economy and create new employment avenues for local residents.
This extensive public outreach programme by Er Gulam Ali Khatana underscores the government’s efforts to bridge the gap between administration and citizens, especially in regions like Jammu and Kashmir that have historically faced developmental challenges. By conducting on-ground interactions and promising swift action, the MP has set a precedent for responsive governance.
As the two-day programme concluded, there was a palpable sense of optimism among the residents of Reasi district. The direct interaction with a senior parliamentarian and the assurance of their concerns being addressed at the highest levels of government have instilled hope for accelerated development in the region. The success of this outreach initiative may well serve as a model for similar programmes across Jammu and Kashmir, potentially ushering in a new era of participatory democracy and development in the Union Territory.
