JAMMU: On achieving resounding success in the ongoing 1-Day Devi Pindian Trekking Programme in which 500 students mostly girls, participated within a month, Tawi Trekkers J&K, the pioneer trekking club of J&K, celebrated the occasion by felicitating the student leaders and teachers who were the spirit behind the grand success of the programme, at Press Club of Jammu, here.
Ashwani Sharma, former MLA and patron of the club was chief guest, who honoured the awardees with appreciation certificates, sacred Chunni, a bouquet and also presented participation certificates in the presence of patron Rahul Sharma, advisors, Prof. Lalit Magotra and Ram Khajuria, president Shawetica Khajuria and general secretary, Sonam Sidharth.
Prominent among others present included Vivek Chauhan, patron; Rakesh Goswami, president of District Mountaineering Association, Jammu; Mridhu Padha, vice president and senior members of Tawi Trekkers including Navneet Gupta, Sunil Chakharia, Amit Khajuria, Anu Sharma and Prerna Charak.
It was heart warming to witness the distinguished audience breaking into a
resounding applause when Ashpreet Kour Sudan, president; Sanjeevani vice
president, Ishika Jandiyal, sports secretary and Saloni Kumari of PS Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu were honoured by the dignitaries. The other awardees included three teachers of St Xavier Senior Secondary School, Barnai namely Meenu Badam, Meenakshi Verma and Anita Kumari and three students of PS Govt College for Women Gandhi Nagar namely, Diya Chib, Mehak Sharma and Ambika Kesar.
Speaking to the audience, Ashwani Sharma recalled his 25 years association with the club and said that it is because of the unwavering dedication, devotion to duty and selfless spirit of its members that the club has been doing a great service to the nation for the last 41 years. He advised to motivate more and more youth to participate in the forthcoming Dharamshalla Mcleodganj Himalayan Trekking Programme to make Tawi Trekkers J&K the number one trekking club in the country.
