Transport Com visits Udhampur, Ramban; reviews functioning of MVD

RAMBAN: Transport Commissioner, Rajinder Singh Tara, on Wednesday visited twin districts of Udhampur and Ramban and reviewed functioning of Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) with directions to the concerned for ensuring services to applicants within specified timelines.
The Commissioner emphasised disposal of all the pendencies besides ensuring transparency in issuance of driving licenses and fitness certificates of vehicles strictly as envisaged in Motor Vehicle Act. He instructed the concerned ARTOs to give wide publicity to technology initiatives of the department like Hit and Run scheme, Road Accident Victim Fund, Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility, Automated testing Station etc. so that people avail the benefits of these initiatives which would ultimately contribute towards road safety.
Transport Commissioner also visited accident spot in Ramban district and took a detailed review of the road upto Banihal to have first hand appraisal report of the circumstances leading to the unfortune accident occurred recently.
He directed the Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Ramban, to identify and compile a list of all the black spots along the highway and interior routes in the district and submit detailed report so that necessary steps could be taken to rectify them on priority. He further instructed ARTOs to increase the enforcement activities by laying multiple Nakas during the night hours with special focus on drunken driving, overloading etc.
He stressed on suspension of Driving Licenses, Registration Certificates of repetitive offenders specially drunken drivers and overloading cases. He also reviewed election related transport arrangements in both the districts and directed the ARTOs to make foolproof preparation in coordination with the concerned District Election Officer.
The Commissioner was accompanied by Pankaj Bhagotra, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu and other officers and officials of the Motor Vehicle Department.
