Awareness programme on Mental Stress and its management by adapting Yogic way of life organized at District Jail Ambphalla

JAMMU: In continuation to the series of programmes organized by J&K Legal Services Authority for betterment of Jail Authorities and Jail inmates, an awareness cum Orientation program for Stress Management was organized on Wednesday at District Jail, Amphalla, here.
It may be recalled that the initiative for organizing such programmes has been taken by J&K Legal Services Authority on the directions of the Chief Justice, who expressed concern regarding the mental health of the jail inmates and jail staff.
The programme was organized by J&K Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Department of Prisons, UT of J&K and District Legal Services Authority, Jammu with the aim of benefiting the officers and officials of District Jail, Amphalla, Jammu.
Justice Tashi Rabstan, Judge of High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Executive Chairman of J&K Legal Services Authority issued directions to Principal District & Sessions Judge (Chairman, District Legal Services Authority) Jammu to carry out the awareness programme at District Jail, Jammu.
On the occasion, those who were present include Sanjay Parihar, Principal District & Sessions Judge and Chairman of District Legal Services Authority) Jammu, Amit Kumar Gupta, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Prem Sagar, Secretary, High Court Legal Services Committee, Harish Kotwal, Superintendent District Jail, Amphalla Jammu, Smriti Sharma, Secretary, DLSA Jammu and Advocate Anil Sharma, Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Jammu alongwith his team.
Harish Kotwal emphasized that these efforts are instrumental in alleviating the mental anguish and sufferings of the prisoners, underscoring their long-term positive impact.
Dr. T. R. Raina, (Renowned Former) Professor & Head of the Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine and Programme Director at the Advanced Yoga Center, Ministry of Ayush, GOI, GMC Jammu, reprised his enlightening Audio-Visual talk by providing a comprehensive overview of stress-related issues and their mitigation through yogic practices.
He also shed light on the adverse effects of consuming impure food.
Highlighting the unique challenges faced by prison staff, who are frequently exposed to stress due to their interactions with inmates implicated in various crimes, Dr. Raina underscored the importance of awareness and sensitization programs.
These initiatives are instrumental in fostering personal development and enhancing job performance among the staff. The vote of thanks and the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Smriti Sharma, Secretary, DLSA Jammu.
