Bid process, team formation complete for SMSM Volleyball League

POONCH: With the completion of the bid process and formation of teams, the J&K’s maiden volleyball league, organised by the Shaheed DySP Manjit Singh Memorial Volleyball Club, shall be played here in the mid of April.
“This eight-team league involved 120 prominent and budding players of the Union Territory, who have been sold following the laid down norms of the League through proper auction under the banner of Volleyball Association of J&K (VAJK),” disclosed Chairman of the League, Mohd Tariq.
The Teams: Haveli Chaos, Budgam Warriors, Chandak Sultan, Poonch Thunders, Gazi Warriors Anantnag, Spikers Qazigund, Lamberi Panthers and Makhdoomi Volleyball Club.
As and when the event takes place, the competition shall be held on league cum knock out basis on professional lines. Each team was authorised to raise their 15-member team buying players within approved funding of Rs 40,000.
“Following the laid down guidelines, each team had Rs 40,000 grant to buy players in the range starting from Rs 1,000 to a maximum of Rs 5,000. The process of bidding and team formation has been completed in all respects,” informed Tariq.
The organisers have also decided with regard to the prize money to the first three position holders and those top individual performers in this first of its kind event in J&K.
“A decision with regard to the prize money has already been taken by the management of the league. The title winner shall get Rs 50,000 while the runners-up to be presented a cheque of Rs 25,000. Team finishing third will receive Rs 10,000. As many as four prizes worth Rs 5,000 each shall be given to those individual performers of the event,” explained the man behind the idea of a volleyball league, Tariq.
