JAMMU: The Jammu Chapter of INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) organised an interactive workshop named ‘Discover Your Living Heritage’ in the activity hall of KCPS on Tuesday. The workshop was attended by a large number of enthusiastic students of the school. The distinguished members of INTACH Jammu Chapter, namely, Chief Guest Arvind Kotwal, JKAS (Retd), SM Sahni, JKAS (Retd), Convener, INTAC Jammu Chapter, Kripal Singh, Parola Art Expert (Former Art Curator, Dogra Art Museum, and Shivani Khajuria, Miniature Painting Expert, were present on the occasion. Principal AK Mishra was present as the Guest of Honour. The workshop commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by an extremely erudite speech on Parola painting style of J&K by Kirpal Singh, in which he brought forth salient features of the heritage of Jammu and Kashmir, especially in variegated art forms such as miniature painting tradition of the Basohli School of Pahari Art. He underscored the need for and relevance of not only discovering the art heritage of J&K but also to sustain it by imbibing and putting into practice the entire range of its special techniques, forms and unique features. Shivani Khajuria conducted the workshop for students by illustrating the styles of painting traditionally practised in Jammu and Kashmir. She used a large white board to draw a sample of the Basohli school of miniature painting and punctuated it with comments on the special features of this school. The workshop concluded with presentation of mementos to all the INTACH members present. In his thanks giving speech, Principal AK Mishra expressed his gratitude to the Jammu Chapter of the INTACH for conducting such a valuable art workshop for the students for KCPS and hoped that similar workshops would become a regular feature of the interaction between INTACH and KC Public School.
