UTSAAH celebrates resounding success of Khushiyon Ka Kumbh-a Cultural Fair

JAMMU: Heritage and Tourism Club (UTSAAH) in collaboration with the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM), University of Jammu organised an event Khushiyon Ka Kumbh- a Cultural Fair on Tuesday.
The event was organised with the primary objective of raising awareness about the rich local art and craft traditions of the region among the students of the university.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, graced the occasion, and Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean of Research Studies, University of Jammu, inaugurated the fair.
Prof. Umesh Rai appreciated the efforts of the Heritage and Tourism Club (UTSAAH) and SHTM for providing a platform for the students to demonstrate their entrepreneurial aptitude.
He emphasised the university’s commitment to nurturing a culture that encourages students to become job creators rather than merely job seekers, and events like these serve as an example of fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among the youth of the region.
Prof. Neelu Rohmetra stated that the Dogra culture is an invaluable part of Jammu and Kashmir’s history, possessing a unique blend of traditions, art, and customs that are a source of great pride for the community.
She emphasised that it is the responsibility of educational institutions like the University of Jammu to not only preserve this cultural legacy but also to actively engage in its promotion.
Under the guidance of Prof. Satnam Kour, Chairperson (UTSAAH), Dr. Suvidha Khanna, Coordinator, Heritage and Tourism Club, and Dr. Anil Gupta, Director, SHTM, the event offered a wide range of cultural experiences.
Prof. Satnam Kour, Convener (UTSAAH), stated that this event is an endeavour to provide a platform for the students to embrace our culture, acquire new skills, and nurture their entrepreneurial spirit so that they are better equipped to shape their future and make a positive impact on society.
One of the key highlights of the event was a historic Tonga ride, which provided a glimpse into the region’s history. Further, students and alumni of the JU showcased their entrepreneurial skills with stalls displaying traditional handicrafts and innovative creations.
The event celebrated the creative talents of students, with exhibits ranging from candle making to cane products and bangle crafting. An open mic session allowed participants to share their artistic talents, including singing, storytelling, and personal experiences, fostering an environment of cultural exchange and expression.
“A Cultural Fair” received overwhelming support from the university community and the public, making it a truly memorable event that achieved its mission of celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the region.
