JAMMU: Transporters will go on indefinite strike from August 31 if the government does not accept the demands. Addressing the press conference, Chairman of All J&K Transport Welfare Association Ajit Singh said that it is not possible to stop the transport completely and they are with the public for redressing issues. “For this, the transporters give time till August 31 to the government and If the government does not accept the demands by August 31, they will go on an indefinite strike,” he said. Ajit Singh said that the protest of Yuva Rajput Sabha regarding Sarore Toll Plaza was democratic and they are not protesting for their personal interest, but the administration despite resolving the issue arrested them. He said that the transporters strongly condemn the arrest of the YRS members. He said that some of his transporters are also among the members of Yuva Rajput Sabha who are currently lodged in jail. They also include the heads of their Chhamb Route. Ajit Singh said that the transporters give time till August 31 to the government to resolve the matters and if even after this the government does not accept these demands, the transporters will start an indefinite strike from August 31. Their strike will continue till all these demands are met. On the decision not to block the road on Saturday, he said that it will cause problems to the people. At present, the Yatra is going on in Jammu and Kashmir and the festival of Raksha Bandhan is also approaching and transport is a means of connecting people, he said adding that in such a situation, seeing the problems of the people, they cannot completely stop the vehicles on Saturday.
