JAMMU/ SRINAGAR: Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib was celebrated with religious fervour . The Main function in was held Gurdwara Tali Sahib. Devotees paid obeisance at Gurudwara throughout the day. The programme was organized by District Gurudwara Parbhandak Committee Jammu in which devotees from all parts of Jammu participated.
Besides prominent local Parcharaks Surjit Singh, Ragi Jatha’s of Bhai Harjinder Singh Srinagar Waley and Ragi Jatha of Principal Sukhwant Singh Jawadi Taksal Ludhiana recited Shabad Kirtans and their recitation of Gurbani Kirtan was the main attraction for the Sikh Sangat of Jammu.
Another prominent Parcharak Giani Ajit Singh Alamgeer Ludhiana Waley also participated in the programme.
DGPC Jammu also honoured three Sikh candidates who cracked UPSC this year namely Namneet Singh, Major Abhinandan Singh, Parasanjeet Kour, Avleen Kour JKAS, Jt Director Rural Development and Panchayti Raj Department Jammu, Harvinder Singh who has been appointed as Korfball Coach of India Team, Dr Harpreet Kour who completed her PHD in Punjabi, Dr Navneet Kour Social Activist, Sonika Gupta Corporator Ward No-30 for her contribution in various developmental work of Gurudwara Sahib and some other officers also.
Balvinder Singh Vice President while addressing the Sangat elaborated the achievement and works done by DGPC Jammu during the period of their one year tenure.
Ranvir Singh Jt Secretary, Harjit Singh member &Incharge Dharam Parchar Committee DGPC Jammu also addressed the Sangat. Jagpal Singh Cashier DGPC Jammu , Tejinder Singh and Avtar Singh Members DGPC Jammu were also present.
Surjit Singh Gen Secretary coordinated the Stage and S Ranjeet Singh Tohra President DGPC threw light on the life of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib.
The Sikh community of Kashmir Valley celebrated Guru Hargobind Singh Jayanti here to mark the birth anniversary of the sixth Sikh guru.
The Sikh devotees thronged the gurudwaras in Srinagar and elsewhere in the Valley to mark Guru Hargobind Singh’s birth anniversary.
Devotees at Chatti Padhshahi Gurudrwara in Rainawari highlighted the importance of the day. “Shakti ke bina bhakti nahin hai aur bhakti ke bina shakti nahin hai (without strength, one can’t be devoted, and without devotion, one can’t have strength),” Jagbeer Singh, a devotee, said.
He said Guru Hargobind Singh was skilled in several warfare techniques and had fought against cruelty of all kinds. The 6th Sikh guru came to Kashmir with emperor Jahangir, he added. There are 10 Sikh gurus in total.
The message of gurus is to connect with God and worship wholeheartedly, said Bhai Harbans Singh, head member of the gurudwara.
Guru Hargobind Singh prayed for the betterment and prosperity of all of mankind, Bhai Harbans Singh said, adding that he taught us to respect everyone without any bias.
“Guru Hargobind Singh came to Kashmir around 1616 and devoted himself to curing the people of Kashmir suffering from smallpox,” he said.
J B Singh, another devotee, said a large number of people come to gurudwara with devotion to celebrate the Sikh guru’s birth anniversary. “The message of this day is to promote brotherhood and harmony for the country,” he said.
