New Delhi: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday hailed the Centre’s decision to increase the MSP of Kharif crops which, he said, would help farmers in a big way in Punjab.
Chugh said while the MSP for paddy (common) has been fixed at Rs 2,183 per quintal, 7 per cent higher than the last season, the MSP for Moong has been fixed at Rs 8,558 per quintal, an increase of Rs 803.
He said MSP of paddy, the most cultivated crop in the country, has seen a hike of 7 per cent, with MSP of common paddy fixed at Rs 2,183 per quintal for 2023-24 – a 7.01 per cent increase over last year’s Rs 2,040 per quintal. For paddy-grade A, MSP has been announced at Rs 2,203 per quintal, which is 6.94 per cent more than last year’s Rs 2,060 per quintal.
This reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pro-farmer policies aimed at doubling farmers’ income.
Chugh said the Prime Minister has always kept farmers’ interest uppermost in mind following which the increase in MSP has been highest during the last nine years. This decision would go a long way to a bridge the gap between the cost and income of farmers over the Kharif crops.
The hike in MSP will allow farmers to procure higher quality foodgrains as well as invest on the modern techniques of farming.
The Modi government introduced one nation, one MSP, One DBT scheme to help farmers in a big way, Chugh added.
