Jammu Mayor urges tall leaders of Jammu to support pro-environment move

JAMMU: Mayor of Jammu city, Rajinder Sharma on Thursday took the anti-polythene and anti-plastic campaign to Government B.Ed College Canal Road and Diwan Badri Nath School Canal Road.
The helmsman of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) was given a warm welcome at these educational institutions and the students along with the staff members there enthusiastically joined the anti-polythene move started by him.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor informed that while looking for bags made of some biodegradable materials he reached DRDO and met the scientists there who told him about carry bags made of cellulose and starch as the same technology was used in taking materials in missiles to get decomposed later on.
He said that soon these bags shall be launched in Jammu and the authorized dealers and manufacturers shall be declared by JMC so that duplicity to earn illegal profits may not prevail. In a startling disclosure Sharma said that some vested interests are trying to sabotage his pro-environment movement but we have to keep focus on motive of human welfare of the campaign so that such wrong elements may get defeated.
He appealed to the tall leaders in Jammu that they had traveled many milestones in their political careers but the ongoing campaign is an initiative by a common citizen in the service of Jammuites only to safeguard the nature so that people may get clean water to drink, clean air to breathe, clean earth etc and to make Jammu city polythene free.
The Mayor asked the big leaders of Jammu to support the move for the welfare of mankind.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is the longest ever held campaign with about 1000 students joining it daily.
So far 12000 people have downloaded the Certificate of Commitment to join the move and there is an overwhelming response to join the much awaited walk on July 26 in this regard.
On this occasion a symposium on ‘Hazards of Using Polythene and Plastic Materials’ was held at Govt College of Education and Dewan Badrinath Vidya Mandir Amarvilla.
At Govt College of Education, Prof. Aekta Gupta, Principal and Dr. Shubhra Jamwal, NSS Programme Officer also addressed the students. In symposium 1st prize was won by Mansi Bandral; 2nd by Anu Bagal while the 3rd prize was won by Rashmi Singh.
At Dewan Badrinath Vidya Mandir Amarvilla Principal, Ranju Malhotra addressed the students and in symposium 1st prize was won by Ashwika Kerni of Class XII; second by Sukriti of Class XII; third by Palak Rometra of Class XII and fourth by Brahmleen of Class XI.
