Councillor Kyungam, Rinpoches call on LG Mishra

LEH: A delegation comprising His Eminence Khamtak Jigmet Nawang Namgyal Rinpoche and His Eminence Jigme Tenzin Wangpo Rinpoche led by Councillor, Kyungam, Thinles Nurbu, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas.
Nurbu informed LG about the plan to conduct a plantation drive in the Kungyam constituency in which one lakh saplings would be planted.
He also informed that the plantation drive is an extension of the drive initiated by His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche in 2010.
Khamtak Rinpoche informed HLG that guests from the royal family of Bhutan along with several international guests would participate in the plantation drive.
He also informed about the plan to install around 130-ft tall copper statue of Guru Padmasambhava at Kartse Gompa in Skara.
LG commended the initiative to improve green cover in Ladakh and assured of all possible assistance in this regard.
Director, Thangjuk Organic Farm and Rock Art Garden, Sonam Stanzin, who is also the recipient of the State Award of Ladakh, called on the HLG at Raj Niwas.
Stanzin informed LG about various initiatives and activities taken by him to promote new agricultural practices in Ladakh.
He also informed about his involvement in the conservation and protection of the rock art heritage of Ladakh at Domkhar Rock Art Sanctuary. He further informed that some of the engravings on the rocks, which are more than 2,000 years old, are from the Iron Age.
Stanzin informed that the Animal Style motifs found in Domkhar are the last and the biggest surviving site under the protection of his family for generations.
He highlighted the need for the conservation of the rock art heritage of Ladakh and the role it could play in increasing the footfall of tourists to Sham Valley.
LG lauded Stanzin for his work and assured all possible assistance.
