Couple having links with Amritpal’s close aide detained in R S Pura

Jammu: In continuation with the ongoing raids to arrest fugitive ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh, Jammu Police on Saturday detained a couple from Ranbir Singh Pura area for their links with one of his aides.
As per the details, Jammu Police said that Amrik Singh, resident of R S Pura and his wife namely Paramjit Kour were detained and further handed over to Punjab Police. They have been detained for reportedly having links with Papalpreet Singh (a close aide of Amritpal Singh).
According to police sources, the mobile phones of the couple have also been seized for further investigation. “The matter is being investigated by Punjab Police and they will be questioning the couple into the case,” they added.
Papalpreet reportedly had been working with Amritpal closely since he returned to India last year and took over the reins of ‘Waris Punjab De’, an organisation founded by actor Deep Sidhu, who died in a road accident in 2021.
Earlier, district magistrates of Kishtwar and Ramban districts cancelled arms licenses of two bodyguards accompanying Waris Punjab De chief and pro-Khalistan Sikh leader Amritpal Singh.
According to sources, the licenses of Talwinder Singh and Virender Singh, bodyguards of Amritpal Singh were issued in Kishtwar and Ramban districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Both the licenses were issued for personal safety but found violating the rules as they were found protecting someone by becoming their bodyguards.
The officials added that weapons were also procured from the Union Territory and were given licenses for self-defense.
Earlier on Friday, Punjab Police said they have released 44 people taken into preventive custody during a crackdown on pro-Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh and handed them over to their family.
“In the larger interest of the public and keeping in view that youngsters should not suffer, Punjab Police have decided to release those persons who have a minimum role or were just following Amritpal Singh on religious sentiments only,” said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla.
Shukla said in a statement that 44 people, who were under preventive custody, were released and handed over to their family members on Friday following a promise of good conduct in future.
