J&K to start UG (BUMS) course from session 2021-22

JAMMU: The Central Government has approved the Under Graduate course Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) from session 2021-22 in Unani Medical College in J&K.
According to an order, the Centre has asked the Joint Director (Planning), Health & Medical Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir to fulfill requirements, for the start of UG (BUMS) course for session 2021-22 in Government Unani Medical College and Hospital, Shalteng, Srinagar, by December 31, 2020.
Government Unani Medical College and Hospital, Shalteng Srinagar with 60 seats will start UG (BUMS) course from the academic session 2020-21 as the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), Ministry of AYUSH has issued Letter of Intent (LoI) for the same.
The proposal for this medical course in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir was initiated by Dr Mohan Singh, Director Indian Systems of Medicines (ISM), J&K and got approved from union government by Atal Dulloo, Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education.
“The J&K H&ME Department requested the Ministry of AYUSH for issuing Letter of Permission (LoP) to start the first batch of BUMS course in the College vide its letter dated 11-08-2020 and accordingly, the CCIM, Ministry of AYUSH vide its communication dated 19-08-2020 issued LoI to start first batch of BUMS course with 60 seats in Government Unani Medical College from the academic session 2020-21 subject to fulfillment of requisite pre-conditions as per the laid down norms of CCIM before the inspection team for issuance of Letter of Permission,” reads a letter issued by Shiela Tirkey, Under Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
The requirements by the college to get permission for the session 2021-22 including all the requirements of Minimum Standard of infrastructure and teaching and training facilities as specified in Regulation 3 of the Indian Medicine Central Council (Requirements of Minimum Standard for under-graduate Unani Colleges and attached Hospitals) Regulations, 2016; all the requirements of the Indian Medicine Central Council (Minimum Standards of Education in Indian Medicine) Amendment Regulations, 2016 (for Unani); and all the requirements under the provisions of the IMCC Act, 1970 and relevant Regulations made thereunder should be fulfilled in toto.
“The college administration will ensure that sufficient qualified teachers and non-teaching staff in the college and requisite staff in the hospital, as per the relevant CCIM regulations, are in position before the admission of the first batch of students in the 1st professional BUMS course is made, under intimation to the Central Government and CCIM,” the letter read and further stated, “The college has develop the requisite infrastructure for the IInd, IIIrd and IVth professionals well in time as per the CCIM norms which will be verified and reported by the CCIM at least three months before the start of next professional and accordingly, the permission for taking admissions in subsequent academic session will be issued.”
“The college administration may take up the matter for recognition of the qualification under Section 12(2) of the IMCC Act, 1970 at that time when first batch of students admitted against this course appears for the first final professional examination of the said course,” the letter stated and further added, “The fulfillment of the aforesaid condition may be made within the time period specified and compliance report should be submitted by the college to CCIM under intimation to this Ministry. The CCIM will verify that the conditions have been fulfilled by means of an inspection and submit a report along with its assessment in this matter to the Ministry of AYUSH for considering the permission matter from the academic session 2021 -22.”
